June, 6th, 2006 marked the first exhibit for La Mancha Gallery, the event took place in 5828 Wilshire Blvd., a building in Mid-Wilshire across the street from The Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art.
Our purpose and ideology for this event was to be an avenue and voice for intellectual and social criticism in Los Angeles. We knew from the beginning that we wanted to create a long lasting effect in our City and the world. The title of our event “Salutations”, symbolized the beginning of our endeavor.
Curated by Director and Founder Omar Holguin, the selection of artists was a labor of love that lasted almost a year in the planning, each artist selection reflected our attitude and ideology behind our vision. During this time Artists like RETNA were already causing weaves in Los Angeles with the released of his “Men of the Cloth” series at the Mendenhall Sobieski gallery in Pasadena. Other participating Artists for this event were: Melly Trochez, Oscar Magallanes, Arturo Gallardo, Baron Norris, Justin Kempton, Daniel Ortega-Flores, Moises Alan, Claudia Galvan, Familia Ink, A short film by Sasha Ortega and spoken word by Carin Gasca DJ’s Beat Collective
The event attendance was over 100 people, but it set a precedent for great things to come. The exhibit consisted of 50 works of art in different mediums, featuring the works of artists that have risen from an underground movement and are well respected and revered in many circles.
