Boom Bap celebrates the origins of hip-hop while imagining its continuing influence in the future. Taking its title
from the rhythmic language associated with hip-hop, the artwork transforms a vintage tape player, discarded
electronics, toy parts, metal and plastic objects, and other salvaged materials into a character-like
assemblage. Recognizable audio technology and futuristic elements connect hip-hop’s history with its ongoing
evolution. Just as hip-hop developed new musical possibilities through sampling, experimentation, and
reinterpretation of existing recordings, Skira repurposes familiar objects to create a new visual composition.
The artwork celebrates hip-hop as a continuing force of musical innovation.
