II. TRANSFORMATION
Finding New Frequencies
Singer celebrates the human voice as a musical instrument and a source of creative expression. Constructed
from painted paper, photographic fragments, and musical notation, the collage presents a silhouetted figure
whose gestures suggest the act of singing. Fragments of notation appear to move between the figure and an
accompanying instrumental form, creating a visual relationship between voice and music. Like Scat and The
Composer, the artwork incorporates photographic elements from Skira’s previous creations. Their
rearrangement into a new composition reflects the ways musical ideas can be revisited, reinterpreted, and
transformed
